More value for your money

Did you know?
Insulation increases the value of your investment and also saves money. Insulation currently in place in residential buildings saves $74 billion per year in heating and cooling costs. (Approximately $780 per household). If insulation levels were increased to code for all residential buildings, the amount of energy saved would be equivalent 9% of the total annual industrial energy used in the US.

Building Green
Energy StarFiberglass insulation is a “green” material because it’s efficiently manufactured, its performance helps conserve energy, and it is recyclable. Fiberglass insulation is made from either sand or recycled glass. The use of sand as a raw material does not impact the environment because it is a “rapidly renewable resource.” Glass is considered a secondary material, and when recycled is transformed into a product that reduces pollution. Most manufacturers use a closed-loop water recycling system, which discharges no waste water. New controls limit the amount of air pollution emitted during manufacturing.

Improved air quality
There are more benefits with insulation than strictly energy savings. Indoor air quality, for one, is a mounting concern for homeowners and businesses. Condensation within walls causes mold growth, which leads to poor indoor air quality and health problems. But properly installed insulation, combined with a vapor barrier, can help control condensation.

Sound ConstructionBatts
A reduction of 5 to 15 dB is achieved by filling space in walls, floors and ceilings with fiberglass insulation. That’s because insulation absorbs and dampens sound waves, raising the Sound Transmission Class (STC) rating. The STC is a number characterizing the sound insulation value of a partition.

As an example, conventionally built walls of wood and drywall have poor STC ratings, which generally between 15 and 35. This means normal speech is easily heard through walls. By constructing resilient channels between drywall and studs or joints, and incorporating sound absorbing fiberglass insulation, at an STC rating of 55 or better makes even the loudest of speech inaudible from an adjoining room.
